Kids Planner: Bluegrass Music, Puppet Show, Garden Tour and More

There are lots of activities going on around Oakdale this week that are great for families.

Gather the family and head out to one of these special events going in or near to Oakdale:

Rockie Lynne

  • When/Where: Wednesday, July 20 from 7 – 8:30 p.m. at the Walton Park bandshell.
  • Why Go: Nothing says summer like some country music – bring a lawn chair and lots of water.
  • Geared Toward: The whole family.
  • Price: Free.

Light of the Moon

  • When/Where: Friday, July 22 from 7 – 8:30 p.m. at the Dodge Nature Center Amphitheater in West St. Paul.
  • Why Go: Summer in Minnesota is short, so why not take in as much outdoor music as you can?  Light of the Moon is a bluegrass band so bring your air banjo.
  • Geared Toward: The whole family.
  • Price: Free (preregistration is encouraged).

MNC Garden Tour

  • When/Where: Saturday, July 23 at 10 a.m. at the Maplewood Nature Center.
  • Why Go: Learn about rain gardens and how to garden with native plants.
  • Geared Toward: The gardeners in the family.
  • Price: Free – call to preregister.

Batty about Bats

  • When/Where: Wednesday, July 27, from 7:30 – 9:30 p.m. at the Maplewood Nature Center.
  • Why Go: You might not notice them but bats are all around and play an important role in keeping those pesky mosquitoes at bay. Walk the trails looking for bats and get plans for your own bat house.
  • Geared Toward: The whole family.
  • Price: $3 per person – prepay by July 25.

Wild Animal Puppet Show

  • When/Where: Thursday, July 28, from 10 – 11:15 a.m. at the Maplewood Nature Center.
  • Why Go: Little ones will learn about animal habitats from this crew of puppets and be able to play nature bingo afterward.
  • Geared Toward: Children age 2 through elementary school.
  • Price: $4 per family – prepay by July 27.
