No Injuries in Late Night Golfview Avenue Fire

Oakdale Fire Department officials don't yet know what caused a fire that started on the deck of a Golfview Avenue home Monday night.

No one was injured in a fire that nearly destroyed a home in the 5400 block of Golfview Avenue Monday night, said Oakdale Police Chief Jeff Anderson.

The got the report at 10:51 p.m. that there was a fire on the deck of the home, and that it was spreading to the house, Anderson said.

“When I got here, we already had fire up to the peak of the house,” he said. “It moved pretty quick with that wind.”

The fire caused severe damage to the back side of the house, and consumed part of the home’s roof, Anderson said. There’s extensive damage throughout the house, he said, and it’s likely the homeowners’ insurance company will deem it a total loss.

The homeowners are staying with relatives tonight, he said.

Anderson said he doesn’t yet know what caused the fire, however department officials will begin an investigation Tuesday.

Firefighters from departments in Oakdale, North St. Paul, Maplewood, Woodbury and Mahtomedi responded to the scene, and firefighters from Lake Elmo covered one of Oakdale’s stations during the incident.
