Oakdale Has Half the Greenhouse Gas Emissions of Woodbury

Explore how seven Washington County 'GreenStep' cities compare at new Regional Indicators Initiative website.

You already heard that Oakdale workers create the more on-the-job waste than workers in 19 other cities in an Urban Land Institute study.

Now the Star Tribune is revisiting ULI's new Regional Indicators Initiative website with an emphasis on how seven Washington County cities stack up. One of the newspaper's observations is that the cost of energy in Oakdale is lower than in other cities.

Another tidbit: In recent years, Oakdale has about half the greenhouse-gas emissions that Woodbury produces.

"The numbers are more than interesting trivia," as the Star Tribune notes.  Cottage Grove, Lake Elmo, Mahtomedi, Newport, Oakdale, St. Paul Park and Woodbury and 13 other cities in the data set are all part of the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency's GreenStep program.

Visit the Regional Indicators Initiative website at regionalindicatorsmn.uli.orgTo find Oakdale data, click on "Explore the Data" in the menu bar and choose a category. Note that the first graph you see will be for the year 2008 but you can click other years as well as make other selections. To understand what you're looking at, click on "So What?" in the menu bar and then choose "Making Sense of the Numbers."
