Oakdale Man Allegedly Stole Pickup Truck

The truck's owner realized it was gone when he got a call saying it had been used in a gas drive-off, according to a court complaint.

An Oakdale man was charged with motor vehicle theft for allegedly stealing a truck from Lakeland.

Joseph T. Beran, 28, allegedly stole a pickup truck worth $6,000, according to a Washington County District Court Complaint.

On Oct. 18, 2011, the truck’s owner reported to police that he received a call from Hudson, WI, police stating that his pickup was involved in a gas drive-off the day before, according to the court complaint. He then went outside and saw the truck was missing, the complaint says.

He suspected Beran, who had stayed with his son on the property Oct. 15 and 16, the complaint says. Hayward, WI, police located the stolen vehicle, and the individuals in the vehicle said Beran had given them permission to drive it, the complaint says.

Beran’s first appearance in court is scheduled for Jan. 25.

Beran was also convicted in Dakota County District Court of stealing and using a checkbook that was inside another truck he allegedly stole.

Beran’s criminal record shows convictions for theft in 2009 in Pierce County, WI; in 2008 and 2010 in Washington County; in 2009 in Olmsted County; and in 2010 in Dakota County. He was also convicted of receiving stolen property in 2009 and check forgery in 2009, both in Washington County.
