Key to Awesomeness: Writing isn’t just something Eloho Urhieyovwe does for academic purposes. Whether it’s through notes, a diary or just random phrases, she said, it’s her chief means of expression. So, when Eloho was tasked with writing a piece on the theme “Looking at the Real Me,” for her entry into the National Promising Young Writers Program, she just sat down and wrote the whole thing in one day.
“At first when I wrote my piece, I was really, really happy with it, it just felt really meaningful to me,” she said. “It was something real, that I really wanted to write about. I actually thought I might win.”

She was right. She was one of six students in the state to earn a certificate of recognition for her work, which included the theme story she wrote, as well as two poems.
In addition to writing, Eloho is a member of the track team and choir, and an avid reader.
While writing will always be a part of her life, she’s not sure that she wants it to be her job. That might ruin her love of the art, she said. She’s looking instead toward becoming a surgeon someday.
