Oakdale Police Blotter: Bias Likely Motivation for Trapping Two, Report Says

In other reports, a man tried on a pair of boots, and left his old ones on the shelf.

Two Oakdale residents were trapped inside an apartment April 16 in an incident police say appears to be motivated by bias, according to an Oakdale Police Department report.

A 16-year-old boy and a 37-year-old woman were trapped, at about 6 a.m. Saturday, inside an apartment by a rope secured to the apartment door handle and a closet door handle, in a building in the 6200 block of 40th Street, the report says.

An officer also found a swastika-type symbol engraved in the door to the apartment, the report says.

The complainant reported that an unknown person had caulked the apartment door shut a week ago.

April 15:

  • A complainant at Safe Harbor Systems reported that someone stole $550 worth of scrap steel from an outdoor recycling Dumpster.
  • A complainant at reported that a man tried on a new pair of $119 boots, put his old boots in the shoebox, reshelved it and left the store without paying for the boots. Police tracked the man down using his license plate number. He admitted to the theft.
  • A property manager of a building in the 3800 block of Granada Way reported there was evidence of marijuana smoking in one of the building’s units. A resident in the apartment admitted to smoking marijuana, but said he did it outside. Three children were present in the apartment.
  • A $50 Ecko brand watch was reportedly stolen while left unattended on a table at .
  • An Oakdale resident reported that sometime between 10 p.m. April 13 and 6 p.m. April 14, someone stole about 24 gallons of diesel fuel—worth about $97—from his pickup truck while it was parked in the 7600 block of Hemingway Avenue.

 April 16:

  •  An Oakdale man reported that someone called him saying he won $1.5 million and a Mercedes, and that he needed to get a $500 reloadable card and call a 1-800 number with the card number for his Mercedes to be delivered. The complainant knew it was a scam, and did not lose any money.
  • loss prevention told the Oakdale Police Department that a man purchased an $800 Sony Network Hub for $40 by switching its UPC sticker with another item.
  • A man was arrested in the 2500 block of Hydram Avenue after police found a glass pipe that tested positive for methamphetamine that a witness said was his.
  • Police stopped a driver in the 6700 block of Highway 5 around 4 p.m. for failing to signal a left turn, and found that the driver had a revoked driver’s license and no insurance on his vehicle. Police had the vehicle towed.
  • A complainant at reported at about 4 p.m. that a teenager pumped $50 worth of gas and drove off without paying. The complainant got the license plate number and a letter was mailed to the vehicle’s registered owner.

 April 17:

  • A 21-year-old St. Paul man was cited for posting an offensive/harassing comment about a 20-year-old Oakdale woman on Facebook.
  • Oakdale police assisted the Washington County Sheriff’s Office in arresting a man who was starting fights with other guests at the Wildwood Lodge.
  • Police responded to at about 4:15 a.m. for a woman who had gotten locked inside the restaurant because she was in the bathroom during closing. She got out using a door that opened from the inside only.
  • Police received notice that following the funeral of a motorcycle gang member, 100-200 motorcyclists from gangs including Hell’s Outcasts, Hell’s Angels and Las Valientes were expected to be at Riley’s.
  • After getting a complaint from a resident, police found four juveniles on the roof of around 7:15 p.m. The juveniles were cited and released to their parents.
