Oakdale Police Blotter: Collections Employee Gets a Frightening Message

In other reports, a checkbook and Social Security card were stolen from an unlocked truck and a car was stolen from a parking lot on 40th Street.

A security officer at ECMC reported Wednesday that a collections employee received a threatening message from a Kansas man, according to an Oakdale Police Department report.

In the message, the man said that he was going to “find out where you live, your families and your neighbors live, and cut off your [expletive] heads off,” the report says.

Police called the suspect, who said he was intoxicated when he called, and upset about harassing calls regarding payment, according to the report. He stated that he didn’t realize what he had said and he was sorry, the report says. The report was forwarded to the county attorney for a review of charges.

  • An 82-year-old woman received a call from someone claiming to be her granddaughter who said she was in jail in Peru and needed $2,845 to get out. The woman knew it was a scam and did not send any money.
  • A checkbook and Social Security card were stolen from an unlocked truck parked in a driveway in the 7600 block of 31st Street on Jan. 19. The suspect wrote several checks at an unknown Home Depot. The man was given an identity theft pamphlet and told to make a report to police in the city where the Home Depot is located.
  • A 61-year-old woman was found dead in her home after her sister called police, asking them to check on her. Her sister told police she had not been heard from since Jan. 20. Police responded to her home in the 7000 block of 49th Street, and from the front door window could see someone lying on the floor.
  • A wallet was stolen from a locker at that contained $39 cash, a $25 gift card and a driver’s license between 10:11 a.m. and 2:43 p.m.
  • A Woodbury resident called police to report that someone hit his vehicle while it was parked at between 1:10 and 1:30 p.m. on Jan. 31. His front, driver’s side bumper had been hit.
  • Someone smashed the front, passenger side window out of a car parked at and stole a purse containing a billfold, driver’s license, checkbook, financial cards, Social Security cards, insurance cards and $15 cash. The incident took place between 4:50 and 4:55 p.m. The total value of items stolen was $170, and the damage estimate is $200.
  • An Oakdale man received 20 unwanted text messages from a phone number he didn’t recognize. Police tried to call the number, but got no answer and no voicemail. A recorded voice said “the person you are trying to reach is unavailable and they will be notified you called.” After two attempts, the officer received a text message that said, “You just don’t get it, do you.” The man was advised to block the phone number and not answer calls or text messages from that number.
  • A Cottage Grove man was cited after being caught concealing a $91 item at and then leaving the store without paying for it.

Feb. 2:

  • An Oakdale resident reported that their U.S. Bank card was lost or stolen on Jan. 30 and multiple charges were made on it at and SuperAmerica at 10th Street and Geneva Avenue. The charges totaled more than $90.
  • A car was stolen from a parking lot in the 6000 block of 40th Street and later recovered in Woodbury with a damaged steering column. The value of the car is $4,000.
