Oakdale Police Blotter: Employee Defrauds Gas Station Out of Thousands

In other reports, an elderly woman lost $3,000 to a common scam and a loose dog charged at a woman.

An employee at the store at 10th Street and Geneva Avenue allegedly made more than $3,000 worth of fraudulent refunds, according to an Oakdale Police Department report.

A manager at the store told police on Jan. 26 that he was told the day before about the fraudulent refunds which had been made after Dec. 1, 2011, the report says.

Surveillance video shows that the suspect had been making returns with no customers in the store, according to the report.

The suspect’s employment was to be terminated, the report says.

Jan. 25:

  • A 13-year-old boy held a plastic art tool up to the neck of a 13-year-old girl and threatened to stab and kill her if she didn’t stop making fun of him at . The girl said she was surprised and alarmed, but she did not believe the boy would actually hurt her and she is not fearful. The boy admitted to the threat and was issued a juvenile citation for disorderly conduct.
  • An Oakdale resident reported that his debit card was stolen out of a locked locker at on Jan. 7 and Jan. 20. On both occasions, he canceled the card. After both incidents, the stolen cards were used at Walmart in Vadnais Heights.
  • Police responded to on a report of 25-30 juveniles fighting around 2:51 p.m. They found four juveniles that were fighting with each other. They all had minor injuries such as bite marks, bruises and lacerations. All were cited for disorderly conduct
  • A 17-year-old Oakdale male admitted to being in possession of mail that had been stolen. The teen denied stealing it, and said he had found it last October.

Jan. 26:

  • Two vehicles crashed into each other at 10th Street and Helmo Avenue around 9:30 a.m. A driver heading east on 10th Street turned left onto Helmo Avenue and was hit by a driver traveling west on 10th Street. Both drivers said they had the right of way, and because there were no witnesses, police were unable to determine fault. One of the drivers had visible injuries to her hand, however, no one was transported to the hospital. Both vehicles were towed.
  • An Oakdale woman reported that $472 worth of unauthorized transactions were made on her credit union debit card between Jan. 23 and Jan. 25. The woman had the card in her possession, and it’s not clear how her account information was obtained.
  • A 15-year-old boy reported that a 15-year-old girl, who had broken up with him the previous night, came up behind him in the library, slapped him in the back of the head and face, and then threw a small jewelry box at his face, causing a red and swollen mark under his eye. The girl admitted to the incident and was cited.
  • A 77-year-old Oakdale woman reported that she received a phone call from a supposed officer saying that her granddaughter was in jail and needed $2,800 to be released. The woman wired the money to Lima, Peru, and paid $172 in fees. Police warned the woman of scams and to never wire money without confirming what she’s being told.
  • A woman reported that a black Labrador retriever mix charged at her while walking in the area of 46th Street and Helmo Avenue. Police found the dog about two hours later in the 4700 block of Heather Ridge Road. They captured the dog and made contact with its owner through the information on its tag. The dog’s owner was cited for dog at large.
  • An Oakdale resident reported that after responding to an ad on Craigslist to rent a house, the responder asked for her full name and address and asked her to wire $800 to Lagos, Nigeria. The woman did not send any money.
  • U.S. Postal Service tracking showed that two silver coins worth $75 were delivered to a home in the 7800 block of 28th Street, however the package was not in the mailbox when the resident there checked it.

Jan. 27:

  • Police responded to the 1100 block of Guthrie Avenue at about 2 a.m. on a report of an out of control teen. A 16-year-old male was punching holes in the wall and had a knife. He wouldn’t allow his mother to sleep or leave the house. Police transported the teen to United Hospital.
