Oakdale Police Blotter: Home Burglarized While Owners Were Away

In other reports, an RV started on fire after being left unattended with a heater going inside.

A home in the 4100 block of Goodwin Avenue was burglarized while its owners were out of town, according to an Oakdale Police Department report.

On Jan. 3, a man reported that he found a broken window on the garage and a rear service door to the garage standing open when he arrived at the home, according to the report. His parents, who live in the home, left town on Dec. 26, and his sister had been there around noon the day before—Jan. 2.

Officers cleared the home and did not find any suspects, the report says. Stolen items include a $3,500 flat screen TV, $300 Nintendo Wii, $300 Blu-ray player, $200 worth of DVDs, a $1,000 sterling silver candelabra, $1,000 worth of jewelry, a $60 safe and a $600 iPhone, according to the report.

  • A 1993 Honda Accord worth $1,000 was stolen from a parking lot in the 4000 block of Geneva Avenue between 6 p.m. Dec. 30 and 10 a.m. Dec. 31. The vehicle had about $1,000 worth of football equipment inside. It was locked.

Jan. 1:

  • An employee at the at 10th Street and Hadley Avenue reported that a man pumped $56 worth of gas and then drove off without paying. Police found that the license plate on the car had been stolen from a vehicle parked in a lot in the 1000 block of Hadley Avenue that hadn’t been driven in awhile.
  • A recreational vehicle in the 6700 block of Upper Fifth Street caught fire after its owner left it unattended for about 15 minutes with a propane heater going inside. The owner said he was trying to get the RV running. Oakdale firefighters extinguished the blaze, which damaged siding on a nearby home. Possible charges of negligence against the RV owner are pending.
  • An Ideal Avenue resident reported that someone struck their mailbox, causing a large dent, and broke the drive’s side taillight on one of their vehicles while it was parked in the driveway. The total property damage estimate is $150.

Jan. 3:

  • A vehicle traveling west on 15th Street slid on the ice, crossed the roadway, went through the ditch, struck a power pole and utility box and knocked over the stop sign on Hallmark Avenue. No one was injured, and no other cars were involved in the crash.
