Oakdale Police Blotter: Man Reports Accident, Police find he has Warrant
A Woodbury man reported a hit-and-run accident, allowing police to learn there was a warrant out for his arrest.

A Woodbury man who reported that a hit-and-run driver hit his Lexus ended up being arrested himself on a warrant out of Benton County, Minn., according to an Oakdale Police Department report.
Richard J. Leonard, 28, called around 12:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 4, to report that someone had dented his rear, driver’s side bumper between 4 p.m. and midnight Feb. 3 while it was parked in the 4700 block of Heather Circle, the report says.
Police found there was a warrant out for Leonard's arrest for driving after suspension, speeding and no proof of insurance, according to the report. He was transported to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.

- An Oakdale resident reported that six unauthorized payments to Dish Network totaling $35 were made from his checking account.
- A complainant said her car’s passenger-side mirror was broken off sometime between 8 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. while the car was parked at .
- A complainant reported that a man has been staying in a foreclosed home in the 6400 block of Lower 35th Street without the bank or homeowner association’s knowledge. She said the man usually stays there during the day, and hasn’t been there for two days.
Feb. 3:
- Police responded to on a report of a theft in progress. They confronted a man at the store exit who an employee said had concealed a bottle of alcohol in his pants, and a bottle of whiskey fell out of his pants and broke on the floor. The man was issued a citation.
- Police received a report of a coyote walking down the sidewalk in the 7000 block of Upper 22nd Street. Police did not find the coyote.
Feb. 4:
- A complainant from reported that a woman had gone into the business on several occasions to complain about damaged U.S. flags displayed outside of the business, and that he does not want the woman to return.
- Police arrested a 29-year-old Oakdale man for DWI at Geneva Avenue and Stillwater Boulevard around 4 p.m. for DWI. The man had three prior DWI convictions in the past 10 years.
- Police stopped a 44-year-old Woodbury woman for driving without her headlights on in the 900 block of Geneva Avenue and ended up arresting her for DWI.
- A loss prevention employee at reported that a 19-year-old Maplewood man tried to steal three packages of cold medicine valued at $21 by stuffing them in his pockets. The man was cited.
- A complainant reported that someone hit her car while it was parked at between 7 and 8 p.m. causing minor damage to the front, driver’s side fender.
Feb. 5:
- An employee at the reported that a man was unable to pay his $65 bar tab because he had not brought any money or credit cards. The 21-year-old Woodbury man was cited for theft of services.
Feb. 6:
- A complainant reported that between 5 and 8 p.m. someone broke both driver’s side windows on their car while it was parked in the 2800 block of Hamlet Avenue and stole and $80 GPS device.
Feb. 7:
- A 55-year-old Landfall man was arrested for DWI in the 400 block of Helmo Avenue.
- A 38-year-old Oakdale man was arrested for driving after suspension after failing to yield to a squad car while making a left turn at 12th Street and Helmo Avenue.
- A manager at the station at 7570 10th Street reported that on Feb. 3 a man passed a forged check for $216 at the station. The names on the check were William Leanyear and Michael Lee. The same suspect has been passing similar checks throughout the metro area, the report says.
Feb. 8:
- A Maplewood man reported that sometime between 7 p.m. and midnight Feb. 7 someone stole his stereo and wallet from his unlocked vehicle, which was parked at Imation. The wallet contained his driver’s license, credit cards, $1,100 cash and his Social Security card. The total value of items stolen was $1,188.50.
- A 51-year-old Oakdale man was cited for inattentive driving after hitting a school bus that was stopped in the 1700 block of Granada Avenue. The man said he couldn’t see the school bus because the sun was in his eyes. No one was injured, but the man’s vehicle incurred major damage.
- A staff member at reported that a 15-year-old boy kicked the glass window out of the southwest exterior door of the building after he was suspended causing $500 damage.
- A loss prevention employee at reported seeing two people take an X-box controller from a package, conceal it in one of their pockets and then leave the store. The value of the stolen item is $25.
- A complainant reported observing a car hit two parked cars while trying to pull into a parking space in the parking lot. The vehicle then backed into a fire hydrant, the complainant reported. The driver admitted to hitting the hydrant but said she was unaware she hit the vehicles. Police observed minor damage on the vehicles.
