Oakdale Police Blotter: Multiple Break-Ins Reported in Underground Garage

Other reports: More than $800 taken from a grocery cart, possible identity theft

Multiple car break-ins were reported in an underground garage at a condo building in the 300 block of Geneva Avenue Wednesday, Jan. 18.

Between 10 p.m. Jan. 17 and 6:30 a.m. the next day, someone smashed the front, driver’s side window out of a car parked in the garage and stole $20 worth of quarters, a $10 garage door opener, $40 worth of CDs and other items. The property damage estimate is $250.

Between 12 p.m. Jan. 17 and 3 a.m. the next day, someone stole a garage door opener from another car in the garage. The owner believed the car was locked, and it is unknown how the suspect got inside.

A garage door opener was also stolen from another car in the garage between 10 p.m. on Jan. 17 and 5 p.m. the next day. The suspect had broken out the rear passenger-side window of the car, causing $200 damage.

Also on Jan. 18, someone reported that the lock hinge of their storage locker in the garage had been pried off, but nothing was taken.

The following incidents were also reported to Oakdale police Jan. 17-18:

Jan. 17:

  • A resident in the 1200 block of Gentry Avenue saw three men break out the driver’s side rear window of her boyfriend’s car, which was parked at the building. She confronted the men, and they ran. Police checked the area, but didn’t find the men. The property damage estimate is $200.

Jan. 18:

  • The manager at reported that someone pried open their office door. Surveillance video showed that a woman had broken in around 4:17 a.m. The suspect left around 4:31 a.m., and nothing was stolen. The suspect is also on surveillance video from a theft in Little Canada.
  • A woman reported that on Jan. 8 she was shopping at and left a wallet containing $856 cash in the grocery cart. She said she returned to the store, but was not able to find the wallet. She needed a police report to get assistance with her rent.
  • An Oakdale woman got a call claiming she and her deceased husband were delinquent on a car loan from 2006. She said they never obtained a car loan. Police called the company and verified that it is a legitimate collection agency working for US Bank. Police advised the woman to get a copy of her credit report. At the time of the report, police hadn’t yet confirmed whether the woman’s identity was used.
  • Police went to the 6600 block of Gretchen Lane after getting a report that two boxers and a pug were running loose. On arrival, police found that a beagle was also running loose. They were unable to capture the dogs, however, the owner came out and got them back into his house. When police told him he would be cited for letting his dogs run loose, he got upset was aggressive with officers.
  • A Buffalo City, MN, man reported that someone opened a credit card account in his name in July of 2007, and on Aug. 3, 2007, charged $748 to the card at Oakdale’s .
