Oakdale Police Blotter: Thieves Do Some Heavy Lifting
In other reports, a 4-year-old started a fire by playing with a cigarette lighter.

Between 5 p.m. Friday, April 8 and 11 a.m. Saturday, April 9, a 1,875-pound brick wood box was stolen from Patio Town, according to an Oakdale Police Department report.
The $2,999 box was taken from the store’s northeast parking lot, the report says.

April 11:
- A fire started in a home in the 1300 block of Gentry Avenue due to a 4-year-old girl playing with a lighter while she was alone in her bedroom. The fire was out when the arrived around 10 p.m., however the side of a bed and pillow were burned. The Oakdale Fire Department checked the girl and another child in the house, but did not transport them to the hospital.
- A resident in the 2100 block of Heath Avenue reported that after having a dispute with a neighbor over an easement issue, a sign was placed in a tree facing her property, which read “God is love.” The resident felt the sign was threatening in nature.
- Two windows and a door window were broken at the former par 3 golf course at 5585 Golfview Avenue.
- A complainant reported that an unknown man called his mother telling her he was his grandson and asking that she go to and wire him $2,500. She refused and the caller hung up.
April 12:

- A complainant at at 10th Street and Helmo Avenue reported that someone pumped $50 worth of gas and drove off without paying. The complainant had the car’s license plate number and police are following up.
- A resident in the 5300 block of Helena Road reported that someone shattered her front door, causing $200 damage.
- A teenage boy reported that someone stole his $250 iPod from a classroom where it had been left unattended between 12:50 and 1:30 p.m.
- While investigating a theft of checks, police discovered that a suspect had passed fraudulent checks for $200 and $230 at the Holiday StationStore at 10th Street and Hadley Avenue on March 21 and March 22.
- A resident in the 3900 block of Gershwin Avenue called police to report that he woke up with a black eye, and wasn’t sure how he got it, but he suspected his girlfriend or possibly the dog.
