Oakdale Police Blotter: Tile Shop Burglarized
In other reports, Kmart employees stopped an 89-year-old woman from falling for a common scam, and two residents reported that solar lights were stolen from their yards.

Dal-Tile on Hale Avenue in Oakdale was burglarized between 4:35 p.m. on Wednesday, July 13, and 6:20 a.m. the next day, according to an Oakdale Police Department report.
Someone, or multiple people, entered the building by prying the door open and then pried the cash register open and stole $150 from the cash drawer, the report said.
Nothing else was stolen. The burglary caused $50 in property damage to the cash register, according to the report.

- An 89-year-old Oakdale woman reported receiving a call from someone claiming to be her grandson who asked her to wire $2,867 through Western Union. employees would not send the money and told her the call was a scam. Police also told the woman that the call was common scam. She did not lose any money.
- Police stopped a driver around 5:30 p.m. who was going 40 mph in a 30 mph zone in the 6600 block of 50th Street. They found his driver’s license status was revoked, he had no insurance on the vehicle and he wasn’t wearing a seatbelt. The man’s vehicle was impounded and the reports were submitted for a formal complaint.
- A resident in the 1500 block of Hallmark Lane reported that a cat had been stuck in a tree for more than 24 hours. The Oakdale Fire Department responded, however the cat ran away when the ladder got close, and so they were unable to capture it.
July 14:
- A resident in the 4700 block of Hayward Road reported that someone stole $25 worth of solar powered lights from her neighbor’s yard. The complainant gave police a description of the suspected thief and his car, however police were unable to locate him.
- A resident in the 6200 block of 10th Street reported that someone stole the top to one of her solar yard lights and smashed the glass body. The total loss was $40.
- A complainant reported that her sister, who is mentally handicapped, was approached at her Oakdale apartment by a man named “Doug,” who said he was a college student from Kentucky. The man convinced her to buy $127 worth of magazine subscriptions. The check was cashed. The man did not leave a business card or receipt. Police are investigating the incident.
- A resident in the 2100 block of Helena Avenue reported that someone spray painted a racial epithet on his fence between 5 p.m. July 13 and 5 p.m. July 14 causing $50 damage.
- A 55-year-old Oakdale man was arrested at at about 7 p.m. after police received reports that he was extremely intoxicated and appeared to be taking pictures of children. He denied taking any photos, however he had a warrant for possession of alcohol in public. Police booked him due to the warrant.
