Oakdale Police Department Swamped With Calls Due to Heavy Rains

Some Oakdale residents got trapped in cars, or water in their basements.

When Oakdale resident Ann Hagestad began to pull out of her long, gravel-covered driveway Saturday morning to head to , she quickly saw a cavernous obstacle in her way.

Following heavy rains over the weekend, a sinkhole had formed in the driveway to her home in the 2800 block of Gresham Avenue.

“It was pretty crazy,” she said.

The sinkhole was 10 feet wide, 5 feet long, 3 feet deep and had exposed pipe and cables buried under the driveway, according to the Oakdale Police Department report.

Hagestad’s driveway is covered with gravel again, but she was still working Monday on cleaning up her basement, she said, which got flooded due to the rains.
