Oakdale Realtor to Become President of the Minnesota Association of Realtors this Month

June Wiener will be sworn in as the new president for the Minnesota Association of Realtors in October.

What do you do when you have finally reached the top in your career? You celebrate, which is exactly what Oakdale resident, June Wiener will be doing at the Golden Valley Country Club on Oct. 13 when she is sworn in as the President of the Minnesota Association of Realtors (MNAR).

Wiener said she is looking forward to the new opportunity and everything the job will entail.

According to Wiener, her general duties as president will include serving as the chair at all board of director and executive meetings, acting as a media contact and representing the association at conventions and national meetings in Washington, D.C.

“I will be like the spokesperson for the association, the go-to person for all kinds of meetings and events that come up throughout the year,” she said.

Wiener is no stranger to the Realtors association. She first became involved in the St. Paul Realtors Association as a member of the board of directors.  She eventually became the president before moving forward to the state association.

“After being with the St. Paul association for several years, I decided I wanted to use my experience and everything I had learned and take it to the next level,” she said.

Wiener was on the MNAR committee for eight years, ultimately becoming the treasurer and president-elect.

Wiener said she is also involved in the Professional Standards Committee at MNAR, which holds dispute resolutions between either two Realtors or a Realtor and the public. They also solve commission disputes, eliminating the need to go through the courts.

“That is where my passion lies, you learn so much when you sit in on these hearings. It’s been very educational for me,” she said.

Wiener quit her career in nursing over 20 years ago to join the Oakdale-based Cardinal Realty, which has been owned and operated by her husband’s family since the early '60s.

“I loved my patient care, but hated what was happening with the insurance businesses. It turned from a nurturing environment to a business environment,” she said. “I decided to try sales and it ended up being a really great fit for me.”

Wiener said she has continued to further her education and her career over the last 20 years, which she believes sets her aside from other Realtors.

Some of the additional education she has received includes graduating from the Realtor Institute, becoming a certified residential specialist and buyer’s representative.

According to Wiener, her favorite aspects of being a Realtor are having a flexible schedule and working with first-time homebuyers.

“There is something so exciting about first-time buyers," she said. "They’re so happy and enthusiastic, they want to learn and are willing to listen. It’s really satisfying to see how happy they are when they get into their first home."

Wiener said one of the challenges she faces as a Realtor is the ever-changing economy.

“A big part of dealing with that is helping people come to the reality that while we know the economy is struggling, there are still instances where it is OK to buy a house and take advantage of good prices and low interest rates,” she said.

Wiener said she is looking forward to another eventful year as both a Realtor and president of MNAR. She said she has hopes of enhancing the state association and coming up with new ideas.
