Oakdale's Summerfest Medallion Hunt Expected to Continue

The organizer said he's heard from families who enjoy the annual hunt.

The Summerfest Medallion Hunt will likely take place again next year, said coordinator Larry Eberhard.

Earlier this year, Eberhard on whether the hunt should continue, due to concerns about waning interest.

Although he didn’t hear from a large number of people, he said, those who responded suggested that the hunt is serving its purpose—to get residents out to Oakdale parks they might not otherwise visit, and to give families a fun way to get involved in the community.

“That whole family aspect has been a real core and foundational piece of it and these emails I have received have done nothing but provide further support for that,” Eberhard said.

It’s an activity family members of all ages can do together, he said.

The Oakdale Business and Professional Association sponsors the hunt, which takes place during Summerfest. The association board hasn’t officially voted to continue the hunt yet, he said, but he expects it will.

During the hunt, daily clues are issued on the city website until someone finds the medallion, and the winner gets prize money.

were Susan Monson, with her kids Kiana and Jaxon, as well as her sister Connie Gillen and daughter Leah, all of Oakdale. The prize was $1,000.
