Patch Picks: Oakdale-Area Happy Hours

Whether you subscribe to the Jimmy Buffet “it’s 5 o’clock somewhere” philosophy or not, there’s a nearby happy hour to match everybody’s palate:

Located on the far west side of Woodbury, it’s easy to forget about this tucked-away location.  But this is a must-have on any happy hour list due to great drink specials (daily happy hour and all-day cocktail specials), deep discounts on food during happy hour, and—this contributor’s favorite—Tuesday and Thursday night trivia with bingo on Wednesdays hosted by Trivia Mafia (these guys are snarky, smart and highly entertaining).

This Oakdale eatery earns a spot on the list for sheer breadth of happy hour—it runs every day from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., followed by double-up for $2  from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. (valid on everything except shots), which is then followed by more specials from 10 p.m. to close. Toss in a few games of pool, and you could spend the whole day here without breaking the bank.

Located just off Interstate 694, Sgt. Peppers has always stood out to me for two reasons: one, they have wireless internet, and two, the glass bar shelves (what if they broke?). Broken shelves aside, the wifi makes this a comfortable spot to hang out by yourself to enjoy a beer or glass or wine with your iPad (especially when you don’t feel like a coffee shop).  Their happy hour specials run Monday through Friday from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. with $1 off most beer, mixed drinks and wine—and if you come in Monday through Thursday, they offer free hors d'oeuvres (and they aren't popcorn).

Three numbers: 241 (also known in the three-word format of two-for-one).  All day, every day. Need I say more?

Whether you’re stopping in after work with a big group of coworkers or just looking for some downtime, Throwbacks can accommodate it.
