Woodbury Leadership Academy (WLA) is a tuition-free, K-12 public charter school where high expectations and success matter to all! Our learning environment and school community promotes academic achievement for students in grades K-12, as well as personal integrity, equity and a dedication to value and serve others. Our school is committed to our students’ long term success. We use inquiry based learning by teaching the Core Knowledge Curriculum — building strong skills in math, reading, writing, history, science and technology. We also have a strong character education program to ensure students develop exceptional leadership skills. The character education program includes service learning projects and a focus of five core virtues - respect, responsibility, perseverance, gratitude and humanity. WLA uses the rigorous and classical Core Knowledge Curriculum to build strong foundational knowledge across subjects, promoting academic excellence and equity. By ensuring all students share common knowledge, we can narrow achievement gaps and build critical thinking and long-term success. A Lake Elmo man was hit by a car and killed around 9 p.m. Thursday night while crossing Highway 36 at Keats Avenue in Lake Elmo, according to the Minnesota State Patrol. John A. Berschens, 74, was killed while trying to cross the highway from south to north, according to a state patrol incident report. A 22-year-old New Richmond woman was driving a Pontiac G6 SE in the left lane of westbound Highway 36 when she struck Berschens, the report says. The driver was not hurt, and no alcohol was detected in her system, the report says.
