Plaza Garibaldi Closes its Doors

Less than a month after announcing plans to try to stay in their current location, management at Plaza Garibaldi Mexican restaurant in Bergen Plaza was moving out.

The restaurant closed Saturday after five years in business in Oakdale.

“I tried my best,” said manager Jorge Fuentes. “It just didn’t work.”

After some extremely slow months at the end of last year and beginning of this year, Fuentes tried to bring more people in with food and beverage deals.

“It was too big of a long shot,” he said.

The company that owns Plaza Garibaldi plans to open a similar restaurant called El Loro in Mounds View, he said. The company, he said, has other El Loro restaurants in and Coon Rapids.
