STA Too Much For North St. Paul In 42-13 Loss

The Polars fell behind early and never recovered against the Cadets

The North St. Paul football team learned firsthand Friday what much of the Classic Suburban Conference has already witnessed this fall: St. Thomas Academy’s versatile offense and stingy defense is tough to crack.

The Polars lost a 42-13 contest against the Cadets on Friday in Mendota Heights. North fell behind 21-0 by the second quarter and never looked back as the Cadets (5-0, 5-0 Classic Suburban Conference) remained unbeaten on the season and atop the conference standings.

STA scored five of its six touchdowns on the ground, and the Cadets led 21-0 until North’s Brady Soular connected with Quentin Mann for a 63-yard touchdown strike in the second quarter—cutting the lead to 21-7.

But STA bounced back. The Cadets scored three consecutive touchdowns to take a 42-7 lead heading into the fourth quarter. Despite a 5-yard touchdown run by Ryan Nicolai in the fourth, the deficit was too steep for the Polars (1-4, 1-4) to overcome.

North entered the game coming off its first win of the season, a 22-13 win over Simley. Next week, the Polars will return home to face Mahtomedi. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. on Friday.
