Student Run Organization Aimed Towards Providing School Supplies For Low Income Families.

In america alone we have 1.2 million high school students dropping out each year. That is about a student every 27 seconds. Most Americans are not aware of this due to the lack of attention that is given to the issue. Even more shocking is the fact that 75% of all crimes are committed by high school drop outs, and most of them are low income minority students. This creates a never ending cycle of failing students, which is hurting America’s future.Economically speaking a high school drop out earns an estimated 68% less than a high school graduate. Not only do they earn less but they are not qualified for 90% of new jobs. This is shocking considering the high standards America has as a country. America is currently 22nd out of the 27 developed countries when it comes to education. But do put in to consideration the amount of diversity that American schools have to deal with.Antenhe Tena, the founder of EVO Education was not the only one to notice this problem. Tena and a group high school students go together to address this problem by creating an organization by collecting money to purchase basic school supplies for low income students. Although EVO education is at its early stages of development. These high school students are hard at work to get their “Back-to-School” supplies drive on its way. Working with a tight budget and time frame things are looking good so far. By using social media like Facebook to their advantage they are reaching out to friends and family for donations to help grow the organization. EVO Education understands the achievement gap between privileged students and the unprivileged. They believe that providing a student with the basic necessities for school is a huge step towards closing the achievement gap and ultimately ending inequity in education. The organization has plans to go nation wide and ultimately global, but now they are seeking any type of support they can get.
