Tartan’s Angela Prell Wins Athena Award

The award recognizes female athletes for dedication and excellence.

Angela Prell is one of 39 St. Paul area seniors to be recognized with the Athena Award for outstanding achievement in athletics, according to a press release.

Prell has received all-conference awards in volleyball, gymnastics and track and field, the release says.

She holds a school long jump record, and was named most valuable player in volleyball, according to the release.

She’s participated in gymnastics for 12 years total, the release says, coming back to the sport in her senior year after a three-year hiatus.

Prell is the daughter of Mark and Michelle Prell.

She’ll be honored April 18 at an awards ceremony and luncheon at the .

The keynote speaker for the event is Jane Helmke, KARE 11 news director, and KARE 11 sports anchor Randy Shaver will emcee, according to the release.

Now in its 18th year, the Athena Awards honors female athletes for their dedication and excellence in sports, the release says. The Athena Awards Committee is comprised of representatives of St. Paul city and suburban schools, parents of previous award winners and business volunteers, according to the release.
