Tartan Softball Falls At Richfield

The Titans have yet to win on the season, with an 11-5 loss to cross-town conference rival, Richfield.

It wasn't the start to the week that the softball team had hoped for as the Titans fell to 0-5 on the season in an 11-5 loss at Classic Suburban Conference rival Richfield on Monday evening.

Tartan, which also dropped to 0-3 in conference play with the defeat, took the initial lead in the game on third baseman Jessica Fagely's solo home run in the second inning—however, the edge was not to last.

Richfield struck back to take a 2-1 edge in the bottom of the second inning before the Titans rallied to tie matters in the top of the fifth as Ciara Falzone scored on a double steal to make the score 2-2.

However, the Spartans sprang to life in the bottom of the frame, recording nine runs in their turn at the plate to turn a close game into a blowout at 11-2.

Tartan used a combination of Richfield miscues with a sprinkling of clutch hitting to carve out three more points over the sixth and seventh innings, but it wasn't enough as Titans runners were thrown out at first and third base on the same play to end the game with the Spartans winning by six runs.

Starting pitcher Amanda Erickson pitched into the fifth inning before reliever Haley Macioch came on to finish out the game for Tartan.

Coach Brian Larson's club remains on the road with a trip to White Bear Lake for a non-conference contest with the Bears at 4:15 p.m. Tuesday before traveling to Classic Suburban foe South St. Paul at the same time on Thursday.
