Armstrong Beat Maple Grove 18-16 At Season Opener
Robbinsdale Armstrong won in a close one over Maple Grove, 18-16 on Sept. 1.
The Robbinsdale Armstrong football team opened up its 2011 season with an 18-16 win over Maple Grove on the road Sept. 1.
The Falcons led 12-9 at halftime and held on for the narrow victory, but the Crimson had a shot at the end. With 1:33 remaining, Maple Grove missed a field goal that would have given the Crimson the lead. Maple Grove did get the ball back one last time but was unable to capitalize.
Armstrong (1-0, 1-0 Northwest Suburban Conference) finished its season a year ago with a 2-7 record and didn’t record its first win until Week 5, when they beat the Crimson (0-1, 0-1) at home 14-7. The Falcons hope the early-season victory will provide the quick spark they need to improve their win total from a year ago.
