A Little of This, A Little of That...
An introduction and a little bit of what to expect from this blog.

Hi everybody, my name is Matt Marek, communications and community relations specialist for the Minnesota School of Business-Plymouth, and latest addition to the stable of Patch bloggers.
First off, a very happy 2012 to everybody! I started the year in my hometown of East Grand Forks, Minn. by succumbing to a New Year’s Eve day of eating, drinking, present opening and playing with my godchild and young cousins (a combination that produced a 27-year-old man looking like this at about 7 p.m.).
I have seen many sides of the higher education spectrum. I played baseball at a public community college and a private Baptist University (of which has probably the coolest mascot ever), followed by graduate school at a public state school. I have worked at a private Jesuit University, and have finally landed at a private career college, so don’t be surprised to read about my views on higher education spectrum from time-to-time.

One thing that I love about my current job is seeing our students
succeed. Quarterly graduations are the highlight of the calendar year. Getting
to see all the hard work (from many students that are working and/or have
families) finally payoff is a great feeling for us on the administrative and
faculty side.
One thing you may see on this blog is some of our students stories and successes. Don’t be surprised, however, if you see me writing about sports, music, or anything else for that matter.

Again, I wish all of you an excellent 2012. I will leave you with my favorite song and band of the moment (a Minneapolis-based group), The Maker by Polica.
