Dome Time For Providence Academy Football

Rushing touchdowns by Klitske and Canfield give Lions the edge over Yellowjackets.

In their sixth year of varsity football, the Providence Academy Lions will head to the Metrodome for the first time after winning the Class AAA quarterfinal contest against Perham 28-19 Nov. 12.

The Lions recovered from a 7-0 hole against the Yellowjackets with power rushing by Klitzke and quarterback Jackson Canfield.

The Lions defense started finding some answers against the Yellowjackets' dynamic duo of Jordan Hein and Gabe Pankonin, but Perham put a second TD on the board late in the half.

The Lions closed out the half with a drive deep into Yellowjacket territory, but they came away with an interception. The jitters continued in the second half with a second interception by Canfield.

The Yellowjackets captialized with a TD run by Pankonin and cut the lead to two 21-19. Klitzke didn't let the Jackets get closer with a 55-yard run on the next drive, which set up a TD run by Canfield. It pu the Lions ahead 28-19.

He saved the next drive for the Lions with an 8-yard run on fourth down in the final quarter. Kellen Carney stepped up big in the fourth quarter for the Lions with an interception at the Lions 23-yard line in the final seven minutes. It stopped a long pass play by the Yellowjackets.

The Lions then moved the ball deep into Yellowjacket terriotory, and Canfield capped the drive with a short run on a fourth down at the 13-yard line, which sealed the game.

The Lions will play the winner of the St. Croix Lutheran and Plainview-Elgin-Millville quarterfinal game.
