Hennepin County Library Top 25 Teen Book Titles of 2011

What are Hennepin County teens reading?

A look at the top 25 teen titles checked out so far this year from Hennepin County Library indicates that teens like to spend their leisure reading time with novels speculating about the future. Almost half of the top 25 books are science or futuristic fiction.

Suzanne Collins’ futuristic novels “Hunger Games,” “Mockingjay,” and “Catching Fire,” ranked number one, three, and four in the top 25. Five of Stephenie Meyer’s vampire stories about Bella, Edward, and Jacob are in the top 25, with three in the top 10.

Adult crime fiction writer James Patterson’s science fiction novels about a group of winged mutants known as the Flock are popular. “Fang,” “Witch & Wizard,” “Angel,” and “The Dangerous Days of Daniel X” all rank among the top 25 teen books checked out at Hennepin County Library so far this year.

Spy fiction also makes the top 25, with Anthony Horowitz’s teen spy Alex Rider continuing his dangerous investigative work for Britain’s M16 intelligence agency in “Crocodile Tears” “Stormbreaker,” “Point Blank,” and “Skeleton Key.”
