Just a story about his kindness.
We were living in St. Paul while he attended UM Minneapolis. It was cold outside. The night before, he got home late and found there was no place to park, so he parked in a no-parking zone. The next morning, he found that he’d been towed.
So we went to the tow yard in Minneapolis to get his car out of jail. I arrived home and expected Willie to be there already. Forty-five minutes went by, and I started to worry, so I called him to make sure he was OK.
He answered the phone to tell me he was at the pet store. I was confused because, at that time, we didn’t have any pets.
He told me that on his way home, at some intersection, there was an unhoused gentleman with a dog. Willie gave the man a donation and noticed the dog didn’t have a jacket. So Willie went to the pet store and bought the man a coat for his dog.
Instead of being bitter and letting his car being towed or the cold Minnesota winter get him down, he still had the heart to help others — even our four-legged friends.
