Plymouth Seeks Citizens For Commission Openings
Citizens are needed to fill Plymouth city commissions and committees that serve as advisers to the Plymouth City Council. Applications due Monday, Oct. 31.

It's that time of year again. Time to put on your thinking cap and be a part of your city's action committees.
Plymouth residents who want to contribute to their community can now apply to serve on a citizen advisory board. There are several groups that advise and help in the decision-making process for the Plymouth City Council. Here's your chance to give your two cents on anything from the environment to parks and transit services.
The City Council will interview applicants and make appointments later this year for terms beginning in early 2012.

The deadline to apply for seats on the following groups is Monday, Oct. 31:
• The Environmental Quality Committee: This group makes recommendations to the council on a variety of environmental issues and meets at 7 p.m. the second Wednesday of each month.

• The Housing & Redevelopment Authority: This group works with Plymouth’s housing and community development programs; administers federal, state and local grants for housing programs; and owns two apartment buildings for seniors.This group meets at 7 p.m. the fourth Thursday of each month.
• The Human Rights Committee: This group provides education on human rights issues and meets at 7 p.m. on the first Thursday on a quarterly basis.
• The Parks and Recreation Advisory Commission: This group oversees plans and proposals for the city's park system and recreation programs and meets at 7 p.m. the second Thursday of each month.
• The Planning Commission: This group reviews land development applications to ensure they conform to the comprehensive plan and zoning ordinance and meets at 7 p.m. the first and third Wednesday of each month.
• The Plymouth Advisory Committee on Transit: This group advises the City Council on the city-operated Plymouth Metrolink bus system and meets at 7 p.m. the fourth Wednesday on a quarterly.
• The Elm Creek Watershed Management Commission: This group addresses water quality issues in the Elm Creek Watershed, which includes northwest Plymouth. The commission is a joint powers body that includes representatives from cities that are part of the watershed. The Plymouth City Council appoints the Plymouth representative. This group meets at 11:30 a.m. the second Wednesday of each month.
