RAS Lacrosse Video Goes Viral

A Plymouth resident's YouTube video went from eight views to almost 50,000 views in a few days thanks to a feature in Sports Ilustrated's Extra Mustard section.

Plymouth resident Joel Scalzo was videotaping a boys lacrosse game at Robbinsdale Armstrong High School when something unusual happened. Aaron Soper, a junior goalie for Robbinsale Armstrong High School, ran the entire length of the field to score an unassisted goal.

As the boys lacrosse booster club president, Scalzo was used to recording games.

"It's pretty unusual for a goalie to score," Scalzo said. "When I got that on tape, I sent it over to Sports Illustrated, thinking it would never get picked up."

Scalzo joked that it must have been a quiet day at the Sports Illustrated news desk. By Friday, the video was posted on Extra Mustard, a portion of the Sports Illustrated website that features outrageaous sports photos and videos.

"On Thursday, I posted the video to YouTube and it had eight views," Scalzo said. "By Saturday, it had 17,000 views."
