Sen. Klobuchar Visits Plymouth Business

Senator Amy Klobuchar visited Productivity Inc. in Plymouth Thursday as part of her "Made in America" tour across Minnesota.

Senator Amy Klobuchar kicks off her "Made in America" economic tour Thursday in Fridley in the morning and Plymouth in the afternoon. She is joined by U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) Administrator Karen Mills.

The two will tour th Boring Machine Corporation in Fridley, which provides precision machine parts for the medical, aerospace, general aviation and defense industries. With a total workforce of 41, the company has added 15 new jobs this year and is currently hiring for six more positions.

Later on Thursday, Klobuchar and Mills will visit Productivity Inc., a company in Plymouth, to participate in an Advanced Manufacturing Listening and Action Session sponsored by the President’s Council on Jobs and Competitiveness.  Other participants include Minnesota community and technical college officials, manufacturing leaders and Jay Timmons, president of the National Association of Manufacturers.

The Plymouth event launches “Right Skills Now,” a manufacturing and workforce training program that will be piloted in Minnesota. 

 “This economic tour is an opportunity to showcase how Minnesota businesses are creating jobs and winning in the global marketplace," Klobuchar said. "These businesses are leading the way to renew ‘Made in America’ as a label that still means something special.”

Klobuchar’s “Made in America” tour includes additional visits on Thursday and Friday to businesses in Rochester, Winona, Wabasha and Red Wing.

In Rochester, Klobuchar will be at IBM to participate in a roundtable discussion on innovation and to celebrate passage of the “America Invents Act,” a newly-enacted law to improve the patent system and strengthen American competitiveness.  Klobuchar was a cosponsor of the legislation.

On Friday, Klobuchar will visit Peerless Chain in Winona, discuss tourism in Wabasha and visit Red Wing Shoes in Red Wing.

Klobuchar serves as chair of the Senate Subcommittee on Competitiveness, Innovation and Export Promotion.  She has also introduced the “Innovate America Act” to promote innovation and boost America’s ability to compete in the global economy.
