Two Armstrong Students Are National Merit Semifinalists
Two Armstrong High School students have been named National Merit semifinalists.

Two students are among 16,000 semifinalists in the 57th annual National Merit Scholarship Competition.
Ryan A. Shellberg and David R. Wixon were named semifinalists in this year's competition.
The 2010 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test served as the initial screening for program entrants. About 1.5 million juniors in some 22,000 high schools entered the 2012 competition by taking the test.

Less than 1 percent of high school seniors are named as semifinalists.
About 90 percent of semifinalists will go on to become finalists. To advance, semifinalists must perform well in high school, receive an endorsement from their principals and earn high SAT scores.

The semifinalists must also submit a detailed scholarship application with an essay and details about their participation and leadership in school activities.
More than half of semifinalists will be named as Merit Scholars and receive one of the 8,300 scholarships worth $34 million total that will be offered in the spring.
