Wayzata Schools to Remain Closed Tuesday
The cold weather prompted a second day of school closures in the district.

Wayzata schools will remain closed a second day because of the extremely cold temperatures, the district announced.
βAll schools and district buildings will be closed, and all athletics, activities, evening events and community use of facilities are canceled,β the announcement stated.
Unlike Mondayβs closure, which was part of a statewide closure that the governor ordered, Tuesdayβs closure was a district decision. Earlier in the day, the Minnesota Department of Education announced that there would not be a statewide closure.

βGovernor Dayton is leaving the decision about school cancellations for Tuesday to individual school districts. We believe school superintendents are monitoring the temperatures closely and are prepared to communicate with families so they can plan accordingly,β Education Commissioner Brenda Cassellius wrote in a message to school superintendents and charter school directors. βWe encourage you, as always, to be mindful about the dangers of even brief exposure to these dangerously low temperatures as you make your decisions. I am grateful for your efforts on behalf of Minnesota children, not only during this challenging week, but every day.β
Forecasters predict Tuesdayβs high will be -1 degrees Fahrenheit, with wind chill values as low as -40 degrees.
