MINNESOTA — The business magazine Fortune has released its annual list of the most admired companies in the world. Apple took the top spot on the list for the second year in a row, with Amazon and Microsoft rounding out the top three.

Minnesota has 10 of the most admired companies in the world for 2020:

  • Target (22nd overall)
  • 3M (29th overall)
  • Best Buy (83rd overall)
  • CH Robinson Worldwide (93rd overall)
  • Ecolab (131st overall)
  • Fastenal (138th overall)
  • General Mills (146th overall)
  • US Bancorp (304th overall)
  • UnitedHealth Group (307th overall)
  • Xcel Energy (327th overall)

To be considered on the list, a company has to either be one of the 1,000 largest in the United States by revenue, or a company based outside the United States in Fortune’s Global 500 database that has a revenue of $10 billion or more.

This assortment of companies was subsequently narrowed down to include the 680 highest-revenue companies in each industry, such as computer software, entertainment and real estate.

The overall rankings were then compiled by Forbes in partnership with the management consulting company Korn Ferry by surveying executives, directors and analysts in their own industry.
