“Ape In Heels” — REALLY?

Why are so many diehard Republicans such poor winners?

Their post-victorious snarkiness ( complete with all that unapologetic gloating and arrogance) isn’t just rude, it’s uncalled for — completely unnecessary.

After all, the Republican candidate DID WIN the election. Donald Trump, their sexist, racist, fascist candidate who’d never before held any kind of political office, just got elected to be our 45th President. He’s also married to wife #3, an immigrant who once posed nude for a photo layout — usually a real career-killer for anyone else’s political ambitions. Oh, and he’s 70 years old: our oldest elected President ever.

In other words, his election to the U.S. Presidency is more than unbelievable, it’s downright miraculous. Hurrah! This big win calls for celebration! Good will and happy days for all!

Okay, so young people are protesting Trump’s election because he said all those racist, sexist, reprehensible things. So what did the Republican braintrust expect? He called Mexicans rapists (not just some Mexicans, but ALL Mexicans). He ridiculed the handicapped, prisoners-of-war, Muslims, women — oh, the list is endless.

So are all the lawsuits pending against him. Remember, our latest President-elect does have a lengthy track record of scamming and ripping off the American public.

Let’s see, that list is endless too. He cheated students out of tuition and educations at Trump U. He sexually harassed, even assaulted, women in the workplace and beyond. He refused to pay employees who’d worked on his hotels. But you diehards already knew all about his unethical and illegal behaviors — AND YOU VOTED FOR HIM, ANYWAY! Hurrah, Republicans! You won!

Who’s talking about rigged elections now? Not Trump and his supporters. Not you guys, now that you’ve won the Presidency. You won!

Now, most winners would be basking in the glow of their victory but also cutting the losers some slack. At least, they’d be giving the defeated ones time to process their loss and lick their figurative wounds.

Not you diehards.

It’s not enough for you to let everyone know your candidate won. Oh, no. You also have to keep reminding the Democrats that their Democratic candidate lost, HA! HA! HA! You have to keep rubbing it in. You have to keep letting them know how silly and stupid they were to vote for loser Hillary Clinton ( who, ironically, won the popular vote — something winner Trump couldn’t do). Watching this Republican payback is a lot like watching a gleeful victory stomp of the fuzzy meanies in Dr. Seuss land.

Bad enough you victorious ones keep hurling invective at the Democrats on CNN, talk radio, and editorial pages everywhere. But now, some of you diehards have decided to wage an all-out FLOTUS attack.

Now Michelle Obama, wife of a Democratic President, has to get trashed in a denigrating, racist way on Facebook…probably because she stumped for Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton on the campaign trail.

No, I’m not making this diatribe up. It really happened. This Facebook posting came from West Virginia, from a state that voted overwhelmingly for Trump. Local news station WSAZ first called attention to it, then BBC News covered it as it went nationwide, and then worldwide. Here’s what non-profit director Pamela Ramsey Taylor posted:
“It will be refreshing to have a classy, beautiful, dignified first lady in the White House. I’m tired of seeing a Ape in heels.”

( That should have been “AN Ape in heels.” If you’re going to be a bitch, at least try to be a grammatically correct one.)

Like Michelle Obama WASN’T ever classy, beautiful, or dignified? Maybe beauty is in the eye of the subjective beholder, but this kind of derision goes beyond pettiness. It’s just bitchy, nonsensical retaliation against a popular Democrat. This posting came on the heels (no pun intended) of USA TODAY’s big tribute to Mrs. Obama’s “extraordinary sense of style” (“Obama’s luscious state dinner gowns,” Monday, October 31, 2016). With this First Lady, black wasn’t just beautiful, it was absolutely drop-dead gorgeous. Who else could wear a strapless black, mermaid-inspired, gown by Vera Wang and appear so at ease yet so formal? Not Nancy Reagan, Barbara Bush, or Laura Bush. Those former first ladies had their own personal sense of style too, but no one trashed them the way this Facebook troll trashed Michelle Obama.

The closest kind of disparagement I ever heard came from stand-up comic Judy Tenuta when she said Barbara Bush looked like a sofa. And that was it.

Most journalists and commentators remained extremely kind to those first ladies. Those Republican first ladies…Were they only being nice to them because they were married to Republicans?
Well, yeah. For some reason, Republicans can’t separate people from their politics. They can’t see Michelle Obama as a statuesque, athletic, attractive first lady. They see her as a less than worthy Democrat, merely the wife of a Democratic President. Regardless of her beauty or intelligence or achievements or contributions, she will always be just a Democrat to them. And any first lady married to a Republican? That woman will automatically be wonderful in any and every way, and, more importantly, beyond reproach. No negative comments or criticisms allowed, ever.

The old double standard strikes again.

Take another look at Michelle Obama wearing her Carolina Herrera ballgown at The French State Dinner back in February, 2014. Regardless of her political affiliation, she looked stunning.
That had to have been the night President Obama became the guy who accompanied Michelle Obama to Paris. In her black lace overlay top and billowing French blue skirt, she was elegance personified. What’s not to like?

To Republicans, she was still just the wife of another Democrat. Facebook troll Taylor would never have attacked Michelle Obama in the way she did if Michelle had been a Republican, or even married to a Republican. But now that Trump has been elected, you’re mistakenly thinking that racism is cool. It isn’t. It never was, it never will be. Rant all you want, internet trolls, but rein in your racism, sexism, ethnic slurs, and overall nastiness. Just take it easy. Remember, your favorite Republican just won the Presidency. But you don’t have to act and talk and think like him.

So stop with these retaliatory, racist postings, Republican winners. You shouldn’t expect everyone in America to bend over backwards to love and accommodate a President-elect who’s that dysfunctional, that clueless. You shouldn’t expect everyone in America to be happy that Donald Trump and his new America are on the horizon. If you win, you don’t have to engage in payback.
