Florida To Take Largest Shopping Mall Title From Minnesota
The massive Miami-area complex approved Thursday would be about 1.2 million square feet larger than Minnesota's Mall of America.

Florida — not Minnesota — may soon be home to North America's largest shopping mall. Government officials in the Sunshine State approved plans for a $4 billion retail and entertainment complex in the Miami suburbs Thursday.
The Miami-Dade County Commission voted 9-1 to authorize the construction of "American Dream Miami." On top of shopping, developers say the center would feature an indoor ski slope, submarine ride, water park, skating rink, retail shops, restaurants and 2,000 hotel rooms.
The Miami-area mall — to be built on 175 acres — would be about 1.2 million square feet larger than Mall of America in Bloomington, according to the Associated Press. The Mall of America is currently just under 5 million square feet.
