GOP Double Standard: Coming Together As A Nation — Or Else!

We only have to come together as a unified nation if our new President is a Republican. If he's a Democrat, screw him!

Looks like Trumpty Dumpty is going to The White House after all.

Sorry, Hillary. The glass ceiling is still intact. It’s not going to be broken in our lifetime, either…unless of course, the Republicans can find their own female candidate for the Presidency. Then, ALL the Republicans will automatically vote for her, and she’ll be the greatest President ever — just because she’s a Republican.

That’s the way they do things uptown.

That’s the way the Republicans have ALWAYS done it. If there’s no Republican connection to any bill or any administration, they simply won’t cooperate or compromise. At all.

So if the Democrats want anything done on Capitol Hill they have to cave in, give in, go along with the Republicans. Then the Republicans get to be seen as strong leaders who stick to their guns (no pun intended here). Meanwhile, the Democrats — who understand that compromise is the essence of democracy — are belittled as wimpy flip-floppers.

What’s startling is how people keep buying into this lopsided scenario about the wishy-washy Democrats. Voters don’t seem to understand that give and take in Congress IS the only way to get anything done. And if the GOP junta won’t give in, the Democrats have no other choice but to compromise, compromise, compromise.

What’s even more startling, though, is this plea for unity that always resounds whenever a Republican gets elected President.

Oh, there’s always some sense of acceptance for the newly elected President after election day. That’s a given. But there’s a big difference between these two parties when it comes to actually joining hands and singing Kumbaya: The Democrats will do it, the Republicans won’t.

Despite their differences and any exchanged bitterness from the campaign trail, the Democrats will honor the Constitution and accept the newly elected President. Of course. That’s what America is all about.

For Democrats, it doesn’t matter if the President belongs to the Democratic or Republican party. He’s still the Commander-in- Chief and the Executive-in-Chief, regardless of his political affiliations.

Unfortunately, that’s NOT how the Republicans (nearly always) view the newly elected President if he happens to be a Democrat. If he’s not a Republican, he’s still the enemy. He’s still the guy who won the election at the expense of their brother Republican. And they’re not going to respect him or go along with his political agenda, no sir. Screw compromise.

If the newly elected President is a Democrat, the Republican Senators and Congressmen will make his political life as difficult as they possibly can. AND THEY ALWAYS DO.

Let’s cut the crap and stop being naive, people. You know this isn’t just my opinion, it’s an observation rooted in fact.

For eight long years, the Republicans have been giving President Obama nothing but disrespect — and we’ve all seen and heard it. As soon as Obama took office he was denounced and invalidated by them. Senator Mitch McConnell (R-Ky) almost immediately announced, “We’re going to do everything we can to make sure Barrack Obama is a one-term President.” Case closed.

Then after taking out all the safeguards and teeth from The Affordable Care Act, they tried in vain to keep it from becoming law. When it did become law, the Republicans kept introducing bills to repeal it — as least 35 to 40 times or more, last time I counted.

Compromise? Cooperation? Respect for the President? Of course not! This was deliberate, calculated gridlock designed to destroy Obama’s Presidency.

But now that one of their own has been elected President, the plaintive, hopeful cry for unity sounds again. Suddenly, The Donald — that racist, sociopathic, fascist demagogue who just got elected President — wants us all to unify. He wants to be the President for ALL Americans. Even the ones he ridiculed, insulted, and assaulted?

Never mind. We’re all Americans and we all have to support our President — even if he isn’t planning to support us. Remember, Donald Trump incited a lot of frightened, dissatisfied Americans to vote for him by tapping into their pervasive anger, fears, and frustrations. He got them to vote with their emotions, not with their brains.

If you’re a have-not, why would you vote for a have who’s against increasing the minimum wage and also has a history of not paying his own employees for their hard work? Think about it. Because you’re voting emotionally, not rationally, not sensibly.

Hey kids, propaganda really does work!

But now that a Republican has won the election, it’s futile for the GOP to continue their hypocrisy. Remember, before election day Republicans were actually announcing that if Hillary Clinton won they were going to impeach her. Period. Without any charges, proof, or available evidence, the GOP junta already declared war on her. Talk about a preemptive strike.

And yet, now that THEIR candidate has won, these same Republicans want everybody else to make nice — and go along with them once more, now that they’re in power. It’s the American way, they keep chanting to the nation.

What’s really unAmerican here is that Republicans only unify when they want to destroy the Democrats. Let’s not forget that no President in modern history has had so many of his government nominees not ratified the way Obama has had. Thank the Republicans in Congress for that unified blockage. The Republicans messed with the political process so Obama’s administration couldn’t work effectively or efficiently. And then they blamed President Obama for being ineffective and inefficient — and incompetent. What a set-up. If the system is indeed as “rigged” as President-elect Trump claims it is, then the Republicans — not the Democrats — are doing the rigging.

Wouldn’t it be something if the Democrats started going all obstructionist the way the Republicans have been doing for the past eight years? Hmm, I wonder what Trump and his minions would do if Democrats decided to shut down the government, then blame the President the way the Republicans blamed Obama…
