Leave John Lewis — and Keith Ellison — Alone

If Donald Trump hasn’t made you angry yet, you really haven’t been paying attention. If this meow-meow-grabber hasn’t scared the bejesus out of you by now, it’s too late. You just don’t get it, you’ll never get it. This President-Elect who will become the 45th President of The United States on January 20th has got to be the worst thing to happen to our democracy since the Civil War.

At least Congressman John Lewis gets it. So does my Congressman Keith Ellison. So do the rest of the members of Congress who have decided to boycott The Donald’s inauguration. And as conscientious, caring American Citizens, they have every right to sit out this latest swearing-in.

Here’s why: they get it. They know that he’s a menace to our Constitution and our freedoms, and they don’t care to sit idly by as he takes the oath of office this Friday.

Good for them. Fellow Americans and Patriots, I salute you.

Let’s all follow their example. Let’s stop trying to normalize the most abnormal election campaign and candidate in American history. At least John Lewis recognizes how atypical and unusual Trump’s behavior and sexist, racist remarks really were. But now this congressman from Georgia and former hero of the 60’s Civil Rights movement is being excoriated for once more displaying the courage of his personal convictions.

After Trump chose Jeff Sessions — white nationalist sympathizer and foe of the Voting Rights Act — to be America’s next Attorney General, Lewis spoke out.

He not only said he would testify against Sessions, he left some stinging truth about Trump in his wake.

OMG! the public servant who’d served his country for decades dared to criticize the President-Elect who had no public service experience in his resume at all!

And how did the Honorable John Lewis exercise his freedom of speech? Here’s what he said: “I don’t see this President-Elect as a legitimate President. I think the Russians participated in helping this man get elected. And they helped destroy the candidacy of Hillary Clinton.”

He’s not alone, either. A lot of other public servants on Capitol Hill also seem to accept these same conclusions from Lewis and other American Intelligence Agencies. And yet, at the same time, this unusual and unprecedented Presidential election is being reframed as just another crinkle in the pages of American history. WRONG!

Let’s stop kidding ourselves. Something’s terribly, terribly wrong here. I don’t care how much rosy PR the Republicans keep spreading like so much discounted manure. I don’t care how many historians and pundits the GOP-owned media keeps promoting on its nightly cable TV shows. I don’t care how many blondes keep telling Anderson Cooper or Don Lemon how everything is okay. Things AREN’T okay. The kids aren’t alright.

REMEMBER, THIS GUY HAS ABSOLUTELY NO EXPERIENCE IN GOVERNMENT SERVICE!

He doesn’t know how it operates, and he doesn’t really know how to get things done in Washington. He’s almost clueless when it comes to any understanding of our Constitution, too. His real talent was convincing voters how smart he was when, in reality, he’s totally ignorant of the powers and boundaries of The Executive Branch. The same people who voted for him wouldn’t want him to pave their driveways or babysit their kids. Or do their hair. Why? Because he simply doesn’t know what he’s doing, that’s why.

Even his own legally blonde propaganda minister Kellyanne Conway wouldn’t let him apply her makeup. At least once or twice a week she shows up on CNN singing her boss’s praises, then portraying him as a tragic victim of media bias. But even this diehard Trump loyalist wouldn’t let him operate her mascara wand. There’s training, there’s experience. Then there’s Trump — the clueless old guy who keeps telling everyone how smart and savvy he is because he has more money than everyone on planet Earth.

Mark my words, this guy won’t be happy until he gets us involved in another war. Already he’s been rattling his saber and talking trash against China — the same trading partner that loaned Dubya a billion dollars for his war to fight “weapons of mass destruction” in Iraq. FYI, the United States STILL owes China a billion dollars. But don’t be surprised if President Trump wants to declare war on China. Why? Because he thinks war will help our economy. Because he thinks war will bring back a lot of defense and factory jobs for the unemployed. Because he thinks it will be good for our country, God Bless America.

More like God Help America.

Enough already! We still have rights and freedoms in this country. We’re still an actual democracy — not a dictatorship, not an autocracy…yet. If John Lewis and Keith Ellison and other supporters don’t want to witness the inauguration of a sexist, racist, clueless demagogue, then they still have that right.

2016 was not a typical election year. Donald Trump was not a typical candidate. His words and deeds were so decidedly atypical that they revealed him as undeniably UNdemocratic. So more power to the people who recognize that a President Trump will pose a serious threat to our democracy.

So let’s stop criticizing John Lewis and friends for boycotting the eminent rise of a dangerous iconoclast who’s going to bring our beloved country down.
