Mall Of America's Massive Waterpark Proposal: Rendering Released

It would be one of the biggest waterparks in North America.

BLOOMINGTON, MN — Just in case there wasn't enough to do there, the Mall of American is proposing to build one of the largest indoor waterparks in North America. The $150 to $200 million waterpark would be open to the public, differentiating itself from the nearby Great Wolf Lodge waterpark where access is limited to those booking hotel rooms.

"Much like the Kalahari resort in the Wisconsin Dells, the waterpark would fill hotel rooms when business travelers and event uses do not," reads the proposal submitted to the Bloomington City Council. "It could be branded by an international brand such as Dreamworks or Nickelodeon."

The largest indoor waterpark in the world is in Germany in a former zeppelin hangar which is 710,000 square feet. The one in the works at the Mall of America would be 225,000 square feet.
