Caspar's forte is goaltending and he has worked with Hendrickson, who leads the league in shots faced and saves, for a few years now. The aggressive goaltender came through again Monday.

"She works at it. She's one of my hardest workers. You don't have to get on her. She just does it and she wants to improve," Caspar said.

The self-motivated Hendrickson wouldn't have it any other way.

"I love getting a lot of shots, it's more fun and it keeps me into the game more," said Hendrickson, who began starting as a sophomore.

Turgeon got the Spartans on the board first. Johnson then added a shorthanded goal with a solid individual effort. She read the play and created a turnover in their defensive zone before streaking on a breakaway and giving the team a 2-0 lead.

Niesen's goals came in the second period on each special teams unit—the first one was shorthanded and then a slick one-timer in the slot put the game out of reach for Badger Thunder.

Richfield will play the winner of Monday's quarterfinal match-up between the Brookings Rangers and Arrowhead on Tuesday night on Rink Three of the Schwan Super Rink at 8 p.m.

"I'd like to come out a little stronger and move the puck quicker," Caspar said.
