Richfield Officer Shot In Hand, Suspect Killed After 'Car Prowler' Call
A resident reported a "car prowler" early Wednesday morning before the suspect fled from officers and gunfire was exchanged, police said.
RICHFIELD, MN — A Richfield police officer was shot in the hand, and a suspect was killed after officers responded to a report of a "car prowler" early Wednesday morning, according to authorities.
The incident began at about 3:24 a.m. when a resident in the 7500 block of Morgan Avenue called police to report a car prowler, the Richfield Police Department said.
Officers arrived and located a suspect in the area, police said. The suspect fled from officers, leading to a foot chase.

During the chase, the suspect brandished a firearm and gunfire was exchanged, according to police.
The suspect died at the scene. The officer was taken to a local hospital with a gunshot wound to the hand, police said.

The incident area was blocked off Wednesday morning while investigators processed evidence.
The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension said its agents and crime scene personnel are investigating the use-of-force incident.
"More information will be made available after the preliminary investigation is complete," the BCA said.
