Richfield Police Issue Tips for Detracting Burglars While You’re Away

Richfield police have shared several important tips to prevent a break-in at your home during the long Thanksgiving weekend.

If you and your neighbors are going away for the long Thanksgiving weekend, you'll want to secure your home and do what you can to keep potential burglars from invading your home. Richfield police have shared several important tips to prevent a break-in.

Tips for keeping your home safe while you’re away:

• Wait until you get home before posting on social media about your vacation.
• Be careful about what you place in your “out of office assistant” messages, especially with home email accounts.
• Have a neighbor or relative park their car in your driveway and move it occasionally so that it appears someone is there.
• If you are on an extended vacation have someone shovel the driveway and sidewalk.
• If you don't have a friend or family member available to check your mail, take out garbage, turn lights off and on etc., hire a professional pet sitter who is licensed and insured. They do all these things as well as take care of animals when people are on vacation.
