Serving Lutherans in Russia in the 21st Century
2pm Saturday, November 22, 2014 Berea Lutheran Church 7538 Emerson Avenue South Richfield, MN 55423
The North Star Chapter of Germans from Russia welcomes Pastor Scheiermann to tell his story of service as a missionary in Russia, and invites visitors to join us for his presentation, as we learn what has happened for Christians in Russia since the collapse of the Soviet Union.
Pastor Alexander Scheiermann was born and raised in Omsk, Siberia. The only student in his class to refuse to join the Communist Party, he grew up without a Bible in his language but sometimes listened to Christian radio broadcasts from Western Europe and North America.
His family migrated to Germany in 1988. Alexander studied theology in Switzerland, and in 1995 was called back to Russia. He currently serves as pastor of the Lutheran church in Saratov, southeast of Moscow on the Volga River, as well as supervising seven congregations in the area. Pastor Scheiermann is visiting the United States in November, accompanied by Pastor Don Richman of Bloomington, speaking to groups and congregations.
