"All My Life" Linda Ronstadt
Dr. Rox Remember When?
Article #185: July 2026
By: RLSchwinden aka MrZerr0

Linda Ronstadt .... where do we begin ? I would say it had to start with when I first heard "Different Drum" (#13 Sep 1967) on the radio as a kid in Sioux City, I thought to myself what a beautiful song I just love the way that girl sings, it wasn't until many years later I found out Mike Nesmith of The Monkees wrote this song, so no wonder I loved this song, turns out Linda covered another Nesmith song before Monkees- Nesmith released it "Some Of Shelly's Blues" in 1968, as has been well documented I am a huge Monkees fans. I remember seeing her sing "Long Long Time" (#25 June 1970) on TV. I heard "You're No Good" (#1 Nov 1974) on the radio after we moved to Jackson, Miss. and "When Will I Be Loved" (#2 Mar 1975), Then "Tumblin Dice" #32 April 1978) and "Just One Look" (#44 Jan 1979). However it was "How Do I Make You" (#10 Jan 1980) that really caught my attention, also on the same album was Bobby Hart's "Hurt So Bad" (#8 Mar 1980). It was at this point I decided I really like Linda, with the exception of her 1978 hairdo.

In 1986 I heard "Somewhere Out There" (#2 Nov 1986) and the lady I was seeing at the time got me a Fievel plush for Xmass '86, I eventually gave it to my Cousin Nicole. Then Linda recorded an album with Aaron Neville (Oct 1989), at this time I was with a young woman (Nosredna Irol) and she loved Linda, and to be honest I thought this was a really great record with the one of the most beautiful songs I ever heard "All My Life" (#11 Jan 1990) so Irol and I went to see Linda for my 3rd Sobriety Anniversary. (I have a Cassette Recording of this show).

In 2006 I was dating a woman from Mexico City (M.E.B.), and I worked at a Music/Movies/Games Store in MPLS so she asked me for the holiday of "Day of the 3 Wise Men" to get her Linda's "Canciones De Mi Padre" (Nov 1987), now I had heard this Cassette when it came out, but really, I did not pay much attention to it, as I did not know much Spanish at the time even having lived in Phoenix 2 times, and Linda being born and raised in Tucson (15 July 1946) but I decided to also get her Linda's Boxset (Nov 1999). When she got them we played them to death, it was then I began to love Linda, I found so many songs I loved by her:

In no certain order:
"Heartbeats Accelerating" "Sweet Spot" "I Keep It Hid" "Someone To Lay Down Beside Me" "Don't Know Much" "Poor Poor Pitiful Me" "The Waiting" "Lo Siento Mi Vida" "I Can't Let Go" "Adios" and so many more ....

It was then I began to realize Linda has mostly done 99% Covers of other artists. I can only find 4 writing credits for Linda "Mary Ann" "Try Me Again" "Lo Siento Mi Vida" and "Winter Light". I also realized my favorite song writer Linda pulled from was Karla Bonoff (27 Dec 1951: Santa Monica, CA) who wrote "Someone To Lay Down Beside Me" & "All My Life".

I began to love Linda so much I dated 2 different women (L.M.R. & K.S.M.) who looked very much like Linda, at times I could not understand why both seemed so familiar to me when I met them, oddly enough both were even from California. Funny thing as much as I loved Linda's voice my Mom and my fiancé of 7 years both could not stand Linda's voice ... funny huh ? A few years ago a woman tennis player E. (who looked very much like a very young Elizabeth Montgomery) came into Mr. Zer0's and asked "I have a funny request, would you have "Pirates Of Penzance" with Linda Ronstadt?" I replied "Yes, somewhere around here" she then asked "You know what I am talking about?" I answered "Sure I own it myself" she said "You do not" I said "Yes, I Do, I love Linda" I eventually found a copy for her, and asked her to be on my Linda Ronstadt PsychoGello Show, where she replied "I'm a tennis player, what do I know about talking on the radio?" she came in a couple times after that even bringing me doughnuts on a Sunday morning ... alas, I have never seen her again. I have been to Tucson once and will be there again in August, I would love to go to see Linda's ranch there ....

In my 2nd year on Radio WDGY I did air a Linda Ronstadt Show, so here is the info.
