Girls Media Camp

In partnership with the Ramsey County Libraries, Young Lenses: Girl’s Eye View returns this March to offer a fun and inspirational media-making experience to girls ages 11-14. This program encourages girls to examine the representations of women in mainstream media, to connect with other young women and to explore storytelling through video production. Participants have access to CTV North Suburbs’ studio, video equipment, production training and mentors as they work to produce autobiographical media centered on their experiences.

The program begins with a screening of Miss Representation, a documentary by Jennifer Siebel that “exposes how mainstream media contribute to the under-representation of women in positions of power and influence in America”. Parents are encouraged to attend the screening with their daughter(s) on Wednesday evening, March 13, from 6:30 – 8:30 PM at CTV North Suburbs.  A short discussion will follow the screening.

Thursday through Saturday, participants will receive media literacy and basic camera training through hands-on instruction. Themes and issues presented in the documentary will be discussed as the girls work through the production process to create original videos. Snack and fun will be provided.
