Football Friday: Concordia Academy at St. Croix Lutheran

The Beacons face a tough test against a Crusaders team that's currently sitting first in their section.

LAST WEEK

Concordia Academy (3-2, 1-1 Tri-Metro East) routed Brooklyn Center 35-6; St. Croix Lutheran (5-0, 2-0 Tri-Metro East) doubled up on St. Agnes 32-16.

PLAYOFF PICTURE

-Concordia Academy (Section 4, Class AAA)

The Beacons are in a section that's seeded by QRF, and Concordia Academy is sitting third behind St. Croix Lutheran and St. Anthony Village. While there could easily be some shuffling in the near future, it's hard to picture the Beacons falling out of the top four, so expect them to host a first-round playoff game.

-St. Croix Lutheran (Section 4, Class AAA)

The Crusaders are No. 1 in the section, but still must face St. Anthony Village and Concordia Academy, the teams currently in second and third respectively.

PLAYMAKERS

-Lorin Edmond (Concordia Academy, WR/RB/QB)

Edmond did his damage with his legs last Friday, turning 13 carries into 166 yards and a touchdown.

-Eric Young (Concordia Academy, defensive back)

The sophomore returned a fumble for a touchdown for the first score of the game against the Centaurs, one of three takeaways for the Beacons defense.

BEACONS WIN IF …

They want to have a chance to be a factor in the conference race. St. Croix Lutheran looks to be the class of the Tri-Metro East—at least offensively—so Concordia Academy is going to have to play a flawless game to have a chance to knock them off.

CRUSADERS WIN IF …

They don't look past the Beacons. St. Croix Lutheran is a week away from a showdown with the only other unbeaten team in the Tri-Metro East, so Concordia might not be the only thing on their minds when they take the field Friday.
