Football Wednesday: Cretin-Derham Hall vs. Roseville

Roseville faces uphill battle in final regular-season game.

High school football teams gearing up to play Wednesday night can mean only one thing: The end of the regular season is here, and the start of the playoffs is just around the corner.

Some teams' playoff fate—good or bad—is already sealed at this point, and they are just playing out the schedule. For other teams, Wednesday's contests could go a long way toward determining whether this season is looked back on as a success or failure.

PLAYERS TO WATCH

-Luke Hamel (CDH, receiver)

Hamel led the way with three catches for 71 yards in the Raiders win over Woodbury.

-Emeche Wells (Roseville, running back)

Wells accounted for nearly half of Roseville's offense last week, with 108 yards receiving and another 27 rushing.

IF THE ROSEVILLE RAIDERS WIN …

A win over a previously unbeaten team at this point in the season would do wonders for Roseville, which is currently tied for seventh in the eight-team section. The bad news is that even with a win Roseville is going to be on the road in the first round, probably against an opponent that has already beaten them during the regular season.

IF THE CDH RAIDERS WIN …

Regardless of what Cretin-Derham Hall does, it will be the No. 1 seed in Section 4AAAAA and will have a first-round bye in the playoffs. Looking ahead to the second round, the Raiders will host the winner of the four-five seeded game, likely between Hastings and East Ridge.
