Football Friday: St. Agnes at Concordia Academy

Between them, the Beacons and the Aggies gave up 96 points last week, so this one could turn into a track meet.

St. Agnes (1-5, 0-3 Tri-Metro East) lost to New Life Academy 42-8; Concordia Academy (3-3, 1-2 Tri-Metro East) lost to St. Croix Lutheran 54-26.

PLAYOFF PICTURE

-St. Agnes (Section 4AA)

The Aggies are going to be on the road for the first round of the playoffs if they get in. One more win would almost certainly keep them out of the eighth slot, meaning they'd avoid a first-round matchup with Norwood-Young America, the fourth-ranked team in Class AA.

-Concordia Academy (Section 4AAA)

The Beacons probably can't move up from the No. 3 slot they currently occupy, but probably need at least one more win to avoid sliding back to fourth.

PLAYERS TO WATCH

-Dan Hartman (Concordia, quarterback)

Hartman threw for two scores in the Beacons' loss to St. Croix Lutheran.

AGGIES WIN IF …

They can rediscover their offense. After scoring 36 points in its opener, St. Agnes has managed just 36 more over the last five weeks. They only have two first-half touchdowns in that span, so getting going early will be key this week.

BEACONS WIN IF …

Their “A” defense shows up. Scoring points has not been the problem for the Beacons this season. Throw out their 21-0 loss to St. Anthony and they are averaging more than 31 ppg. in their other contests. Concordia's defense, on the other hand, has been suspect. The Beacons have allowed 34 or more three times and 21 or more five times.
