Roseville LifeTime Fitness personal trainer Daphne Overby emphasized take small steps and finding something enjoyable in keeping New Year's resolution for fitness.
"Honestly, if it's something they like to do, they'll look forward to coming in [to work out]," Overby said.
Though people make a wide variety of New Year's resolutions, health-related ones are quite common. Seeing New Year's resolutions fizzle out is also quite common. According to author Tom Connellan, 88-percent of New Year's resolutions fail.

Overby shared some keys to making successful New Year's resolutions in the area of health/fitness and keeping them - the 12 percent club:

"Basically, a lot of people get sore right away from doing too much," Overby said.
Have a support group
"If someone's friends are always going out to eat and for drinks, it's going to be a detriment to setting [fitness] goals," Overby said.
Comittment to Weight Loss
"The key is taking lots of fruits and vegetables," Overby said. "A lot if comes down to diet."
Have an Appointment
Overby said that people who are successful at working out regularly schedule it as if it is any other appointment they're committed to keeping.
Have a Trainer
"It helps you get started," she said.
Whether going for fitness or something else, starting with small and acheivable goals can lead to successful New Year's resolutions.
