At Roseville City Council It's Goal Setting Time

Council members to start annual strategic planning session.

Roseville’s City Council will meet Monday night to for its  an annual strategic planning session where council members and representatives from city agencies present their short- and long-term goals for the community.

Roseville Patch excerpted some of the agencies and council members’ goals from the council's meeting agenda materials. Short-term goals are planned for 2013, while long-term goals are planned for 2014-15. The Counci's meeting  Monday (Jan. 30) is scheduled to start at 6 p.m. at Roseville City Hall, 2660 Civic Center Drive.



Administration

  • Short-term goals, continue cost containment of health insurance costs and work for passage of a Local Option Sales Tax authority.
  • Long-term goals, improve tax base to stabilize tax ratek.


Community Development

  • Short-term, implement multi-family regulations and economic development initiatives.
  • Long-term, lobby for the Northeast Diagonal transportation corridor.


Finance

  • Short-term, implement second phase of utility infrastructure financing package and consider eliminating lesser‐valued programs to create new funding for higher‐valued or underfunded programs.
  • Long-term, establish sustainable funding means for the replacement of city information systems, streets, sidewalks and parking lots. Develop incentives for the redevelopment of underused properties.

  • Short-term, complete construction of new fire station and expand recruitment plan.
  • Long Term, pursue opportunities for sharing of services with surrounding fire departments, conduct additional training and review part-time wages and benefit packages.


Parks and Recreation

  • Short-term, complete 2012 renewal program, research and implement sustainable methods and explore implementing a park board or park service district.
  • Long-term, execute additional renewal program projects and pursue local option sales tax to support facilities of regional or statewide significance.


Police

  • Short-term, establish a city‐wide process to address traffic concerns expressed by citizens, increase number of active neighborhood watch groups and increase training in technology-related criminal investigations.
  • Long-term, develop stronger partnerships with new Americans and minority groups and add two commercial patrol officers to respond to increased workload caused by retail growth.


Public Works

  • Short-term, provide engineering-related assistance for implementing the Parks Department’s master plan.
  • Long-term, seek new partnerships to reduce costs and participate in regional transportation planning efforts.


Mayor Dan Roe

  • Short-term, support Human Rights Commission efforts on civic engagement and neighborhoods.
  • Short- and long-term, increase economic development, improve transportation, support senior community and develop better connections between “key players.”


Council Member Jeff Johnson

  • Short-term, develop a more even compensation structure for union and non-union employees, continue funding construction of fire station and parks and encourage civic engagement.
  • Long-term, work toward increased public transit in the northeast suburbs.


Council Member Tammy McGehee

  • Short-term, improve communications with residents through television, newspapers, mailings and a news letter, increase programming for seniors and provide insurance for community accidents.
  • Long-term, protect environment and promote sustainability, offer additional fee-based services to residents and expand pathway system.


Council Member Tammy Pust

  • Short-term, increase “walkability” within Roseville, stabilize property tax rates and increase quality of services and programs for seniors.
  • Long-term, increase availability and access to public transportation, improve with other local government and partner with the private sector on new urban design concepts.
